Job Summary: We are seeking a hands-on technical leader to serve as Director of Information Technology. This role combines active software development with strategic leadership, requiring someone who codes daily while overseeing our technology infrastructure and development teams. The ideal candidate will maintain a strong coding presence, particularly in Python and Ruby ecosystems, while providing technical leadership and driving organizational strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
● Maintain an active coding role across Python and Ruby projects
● Lead by example through direct code contributions, participating in code reviews, and
debugging complex technical issues
● Provide strategic leadership and technical direction for the IT department, including
software development, database management, and infrastructure teams
● Write and review code for critical system components and high-priority features
● Oversee the development and maintenance of applications across multiple technology
stacks, including Python and Ruby on Rails
● Lead database architecture decisions and ensure optimal performance of our
PostgreSQL infrastructure
● Establish and maintain development standards, including code quality metrics, review
processes, and testing protocols
● Guide the implementation and improvement of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
● Manage and mentor technical team leads and senior developers while remaining
technically proficient
● Collaborate with other department heads to align IT initiatives with business objectives
● Drive technological innovation through practical implementation and hands-on evaluation
of new technologies
Required Skills and Qualifications:
● 10+ years of technology experience, including at least 5 years in a senior technical leadership role
● Currently active coding skills with recent hands-on development experience in Python or Ruby on Rails
● Proven ability to balance coding responsibilities with leadership duties
● Extensive experience with PostgreSQL and database architecture at scale
● Demonstrated commitment to maintaining technical skills through regular coding
contributions
● Deep understanding of software development best practices, including code review
processes, testing frameworks, and quality assurance
● Experience with infrastructure management and cloud technologies
● Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize multiple concurrent projects
● Excellence in both technical and business communication
Desirable Skills:
● Active coding experience in both Python and Ruby technology stacks
● Recent hands-on experience with modern JavaScript frameworks and front-end
technologies
● Current practical experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
● Experience implementing and managing CI/CD processes while contributing to the
codebase
● Experience with Agile methodologies and team management
● Track record of successful IT strategy development and execution while maintaining
technical proficiency
● Proven experience integrating and maintaining enterprise-level third-party APIs and
legacy system integrations
