**Painter Helper - San Diego, CA** **Job Description** + Assist skilled painters in preparing wood or metal surfaces for painting by removing dirt, grease, rust, scale, and other contaminants. Mask and tape areas that do not require painting, and support painters in painting parts, equipment, and structural surfaces on the interior and exterior of ships and shipyard buildings. **Responsibilities** + Assist in cleaning and preparing surfaces for painting. + Remove contaminants such as dirt, grease, rust, and scale. + Mask and tape areas not requiring paint. + Support skilled painters in the painting process. + Mix painting materials according to guidelines. + Inspect prepped and painted areas and perform touch-ups. **Essential Skills** + Knowledge of basic painting applications. + Flexibility to work 1st and 2nd shifts. + Ability to work at NASSCO. + Previous shipyard experience is preferred. **Work Environment** + This role is based at the NASSCO yard, supporting the new construction of vessels. The work environment involves using hand tools and engaging in general labor tasks related to painting and shipyard activities. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
