Job Description

The Opportunity

Impact HR is pleased to support the recruitment efforts of a private resource development company headquartered in the Grand Junction area of Northwestern Colorado. Our client brings strategic flexibility and a multi-decade vision to responsible resource development. With a unique asset base and proprietary technology, the organization is poised for thoughtful growth and long-term value creation.

Our client is focused on creating an environment where everyone is empowered to make impactful decisions that support the company’s goals. It’s a company with a long-term view and a culture bias towards leadership over management, exception-based reporting, empowered people, and purposeful work. Their leaders are focused on their individual team members' success, in the belief that in the culmination of many successful people, they will have an extraordinarily successful organization.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Mining Engineer to lead all phases of mine planning and development —from exploration and feasibility through to production and reclamation. Working closely with geologists, environmental engineers, and regulatory stakeholders, you will develop safe, efficient, and sustainable mining plans aligned with corporate strategy.

This is a full-time, in-office role based in the Grand Junction area of Northwestern Colorado and will require occasional travel. A relocation allowance is available.

Northwestern Colorado offers a high quality of life with stunning natural beauty, year-round outdoor activities, and easy access to Aspen, Vail, Denver and other regional attractions, without the high cost of living. The area boasts excellent healthcare, strong community infrastructure, and convenient regional airports with direct flights to major cities.

Key Responsibilities

Mining Engineering and Project Management

  • Conduct geological surveys, assessments, and feasibility studies to identify and evaluate potential mineral deposits, including estimates of resource quantity and quality.
  • Oversee mine design, development planning, and operational strategies to support efficient, safe, and sustainable resource extraction.
  • Manage mining projects from initiation to completion, including project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and allocation of personnel and equipment.
  • Monitor project execution, track expenditures, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure delivery on time and within budget.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and environmental regulations, safety protocols, and permitting requirements.

Communication and Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, engineering staff, contractors, and consultants to align project objectives and deliverables.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, landowners, and external partners to maintain project transparency and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and present clear, concise technical reports, proposals, and presentations for internal leadership, investors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Support internal communications by generating project updates, data summaries, and decision-support materials.

Leadership and Operational Excellence

  • Foster a collaborative, performance-driven work culture.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, operational efficiency, and cost-saving measures across mining operations.
  • Research and apply emerging technologies, data tools, and engineering practices to improve mining and resource management outcomes.

Administrative and Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain organized project documentation, records, and archives according to company procedures and regulatory retention schedules.
  • Prepare and submit all required environmental assessments, compliance documentation, permit applications, and operational reports.
  • Support administrative tasks such as resource scheduling, document filing, and internal reporting to ensure smooth operational execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline (e.g., Geological or Civil Engineering with a mining focus)
  • P.E. license (Professional Engineer), preferably in Mining or a related discipline
  • 8+ years of experience in mine planning, modelling and operations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or participating in multidisciplinary projects through all phases of mining development is considered an asset.

Key Competencies

  • Expertise in underground, open-pit, and surface mining techniques
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulatory compliance
  • Proficiency in project planning, risk management, and budgeting
  • Effective communicator with strong technical writing and presentation skills
  • Proven leadership and mentoring ability
  • High integrity, professionalism, and problem-solving mindset
