Veterinary Hospital Day Porter

At Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (AVES ), we're growing rapidly—adding new doctors, expanding services, and launching departments—as we prepare to move into our brand-new, state-of-the-art 45,000 sq. ft. hospital.

As part of our continued growth, we’re looking to add a dedicated Day Porter to ensure cleanliness, organization and safety are upheld at our hospital.

Overview:
The Day Porter is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the veterinary hospital. This role supports the daily function and patient care efforts of the hospital by ensuring that all areas (including medical, administrative, and communal spaces) are consistently cleaned, disinfected, and well-maintained. The Day Porter plays an essential role in creating a professional and welcoming environment for clients, patients, and staff by performing a wide range of cleaning and facility upkeep duties.

Compensation:
  • $15-$17 hourly, based on experience

Anticipated Schedule :

  • Full Time
    • Monday - Friday
    • 7/8am- 4/5:30pm

Key Responsibilities  
Facility Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Ensure all client-facing spaces are consistently clean, well-organized, and welcoming for guests. 
  • Perform a daily facility walkthrough to identify and address any visible issues. 
  • Maintain cleanliness of all hospital areas including but not limited to exam rooms, treatment rooms, isolation areas, bathrooms, offices, reception, break rooms, and hallways. 
  • Disinfect and sterilize floors, counters, and surfaces to ensure a hygienic environment. 
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors throughout the hospital as needed. 
  • Regularly empty and replace trash and recycling bins in all areas. 
  • Ensure restrooms are clean, stocked, and sanitized frequently. 
  • Maintain a neat and sanitary reception area for clients and visitors. 

Other Skills and Abilities 

  • Assist with laundry duties, including washing, drying, folding, and distributing clean linens and towels.
  • Transport retail food to the reception area for stocking. 
  • Escort incoming pets to designated areas of the hospital when necessary. 
  • Assist with minor maintenance projects inside and occasionally outside the hospital. 
  • Perform other cleaning or support tasks as assigned to maintain overall hospital operations. 
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: 
    • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
    • Experience in a clinical laboratory or veterinary setting preferred. 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards. 
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently and within a team. 
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills. 
  • Ability to multitask and adjust to a dynamic, fast-paced environment. 
  • Good communication skills with coworkers and clients. 
  • Willingness to learn new tasks quickly and take direction. 
  • Positive attitude and professional demeanor. 
  • Professional appearance and adherence to hospital dress code.

  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!
