San Luis Valley Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Laboratory team! This position will perform all assigned chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Receive or obtains specimens and conducts testing procedures in one or a combination of recognized fields employing established laboratory techniques. Analyzes finding and records results.

What You'll Need:
  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of recognized Medical Laboratory Technician program from a college or university.
  • Associate's degree or higher.
  • ASCP/AMT registered or registry eligible. Three to six months on the job training required.
  • Knowledgeable in phlebotomy, immunohematology, immunology, biology, chemistry, and lab computer systems.


What You'll Do:

  • Understands and abides by the laboratory compliance plan and can effectively apply the plan requirements in relation to the Hospital's Compliance plan.
  • Performs all antibody screening, identification, and cross matching procedures required in the administration of blood and blood components.
  • Performs all procedures related to counting and identification of blood cells, coagulation studies, and other specialized hematologic studies.
  • Inoculates, cultivates, classifies, and identifies microorganisms found in body fluids, exudates skin scraping, autopsy and surgical specimens to provide data on cause, cure, and prevention of diseases.
  • Performs quality control procedures and instrument checks and records results.
  • Prepares for and participates in the CAP and JCAHO accreditation surveys.
  • Confers with Pathologist when test results are questionable and need to be validated.
  • Prepares specimens for distribution to reference labs.
